Blinstrub’s and a Chesterfield

Are you here?

It’s about time I used my computer the way it was meant to be used: to find old friends.

I found this photo in a box of old black-and-whites. It was in a folder marked “Blinstrub’s,” which I remember as a Boston nightclub where everything was happening. If you could afford a night at Blinstrub’s and a pack of cigarettes, you were among the chosen. How you came into such wealth was never questioned.

I searched Google and got its history, but it didn’t help in identifying the men in this photo.

If I don’t find out soon 1) why there are only men in the photo, 2) what they were celebrating, 3) what schemes they came up with — I’m going to make it all up and publish it.

Are you in here? Is your grandfather the third from the front on the left side of the table?

Give me a call!

High school Sports banquet? Father and son attendees, plus a coach and the school principal?

  2. Camille says:

Excellent theory, Nancy. I thought they were all the same age, but looking more closely, I see that it could be father/son. Suits and ties make men look the same!

wow, what a great photo! They seem to all know the photographer and each other quite well–they look like they might be academics of some kind, and that front-right-side guy’s tie looks very 40s to me.

Is there a woman tucked between two men at the very back on the left?

Hope you find this piece of your mysterious past!

  4. Camille says:

Whoa, I think that might BE a woman, Mysti!

  5. Mark says:

I’m pretty sure that was the weekly Revere Temperance Society meeting…

Blinstrub’s had a staff photographer. He’d take pictures of everyone and then sell them. I don’t know who these guys are, sorry. What other Blinstrub’s photos do you have? There is a pretty active demand for pics like this on Ebay, FYI.
